2017 Akie Exploration

Canada Zinc Metals Corp. conducted a 5,000 metre diamond drilling campaign on its Akie Property from late June through to late August 2017. The program targeted the Cardiac Creek deposit using 2 diamond drill rigs supplied by Western Exploration Diamond Drilling of Kamloops, British Columbia. The objective of the program was to continue to define the high-grade core of the Cardiac Creek deposit, expand the known limits of the resource at depth and along strike to the northwest, and provide mineralised material for metallurgical testing. A total of 5 targets were selected to test the high-grade core of the deposit and to provide material for additional metallurgical testing, and 3 targets were selected along the edges of the current Indicated Resource in order to expand the deposit at depth and along strike to the northwest.

A total of 4,687.53 metres were completed in 8 diamond drill holes. An additional 404.91 metres were completed in 4 abandoned drill holes that were restarted due to excessive down hole deviation.

Significant results from the 2017 drilling program are reported in the table below. New results will be added to the table as they become available.

(*) The true width in metres is calculated utilising the Geovia GEMS software package. The orientation of the mineralised horizon is estimated to have an azimuth of 130 degrees and a dip of -70 degrees. (CCZ) = Cardiac Creek Zone; (HW) = Hangingwall Zone; (FW) = Footwall Zone; (MS) = Massive Sulphide. (Ɨ) Ag values below detection were given a value half of the detection limit for the purposes of weighted averaging.

2017 Drill Program Highlights

  • Approximately 4,700 metres of HQ diamond drill core was completed in eight holes using 2 diamond drill rigs
  • All drill holes intersected the target Cardiac Creek Zone with well mineralized intervals recovered
  • First four holes targeted both the central core and the up-dip strike extents of the high-grade core
  • Two holes targeted the lower central core area at its known extents to the NW and the SE
  • Final two holes focused on expansion of the known limits of the indicated resource
  • Total of 1,100 samples, including standard QA/QC samples, submitted to assay lab
  • Program completed on schedule and under budget

Drill holes A-17-132, A-17-133, A-137, A-17-138 and A-17-141, totaling 2,732.53 metres, tested the central core and strike-extents of the high-grade core of the Cardiac Creek deposit. Extensive mineralisation was intersected in all drill holes with the envelope of mineralisation ranging in thicknesses from approximately 25 to 110 metres (core length). Sulphides within the high-grade core commonly display abundant light grey sphalerite banding and extensive mottled-textured sulphides enriched in sphalerite, galena, quartz and carbonate. Coarser grained galena can be present locally as well. See Press Release dated July 26, 2017 and August 16, 2017 for more detailed information.

The remaining 1,955 metres, in drill holes A-17-140, A-17-142, and A-17-143 targeted boundaries of the 5% Zn Cut-off Indicated Resource, both down-dip and to the northwest. Drill holes A-17-140 and A-17-142 both tested the down-dip extents of the Indicated Resource. In addition to intersecting the Cardiac Creek Zone they encountered zones of mineralisation in both the hangingwall and footwall. Drill hole A-17-143 intersected an approximate 34-metre thick interval of Cardiac Creek Zone mineralisation along the northwest strike extents of the Indicated Resource. Mineralisation in this hole exhibits abundant sphalerite banding and mottled-textured sulphides interbedded with shale. See Press Release dated August 16, 2017 and August 30, 2017 for more detailed information.

The true width estimates of each Cardiac Creek intercept are not yet available but are being modeled and will be calculated upon release of pending assay results. Results will be updated on this page as they become available.
